New England had a rather large and gentle visitor over Memorial Day weekend.
According to NBC News, a huge 20-foot basking shark was spotted off the coast of Block Island in Rhode Island on Monday.
In a video, the shark can be seen swimming through the water as boaters look on.
While some have made comparisons to the film “Jaws” which featured a great white shark, basking sharks, despite their size, eat plankton and small fish. Their dorsal fins also differ from a great white’s and are more rounded, according to the New England Aquarium.
