Friday may be Elon Musk’s last day as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), but “he will, always, be with us.”
That was the message in a post by President Donald Trump on social media Thursday.
“I am having a Press Conference tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. EST, with Elon Musk, at the Oval Office. This will be his last day, but not really, because he will, always, be with us, helping all the way. Elon is terrific! See you tomorrow at the White House,” Trump posted on X.
Trump appointed Musk to head the newly created DOGE to get rid of wasteful government spending, per a report on IJR by The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Musk posted about his tenure ending on X
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government,” Musk wrote.
Vice President JD Vance praised Musk’s work over the last four months in an exclusive interview on “Greg Kelly Reports.”
“I think what he’s done is really incredible… the DOGE effort will continue… and most importantly, the job, the job of making the government more efficient — of not wasting people’s money — that has to continue. I think it’s one of the most important mandates that we got from the American people.”
During an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier in March, Musk said that he and his DOGE team were on a timeline with the administration — specifically, he had 130 days as a “special government employee.” Musk said he believed DOGE would accomplish “most of the work required to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars within that time frame.”
“We are cutting the waste and fraud in real time. So every day like that passes, our goal is to reduce the waste and fraud by four billion dollars a day, every day, seven days a week, and so far we are succeeding,” Musk said.
