House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) stopped herself when she mentioned former President Donald Trump during her press conference.

“I was thinking this morning in anticipation of their announcement of the Citizenship Act that a couple years ago… guess it must be longer than that now when Trump was the new president. Did I say his name?” Pelosi said.

President Joe Biden would also like to stop mentioning the former president, as IJR reported.

He was asked during a CNN town hall on Tuesday night if he agrees with Pelosi’s argument Republican senators who voted to acquit Trump are “cowards.”

“I’m not going to call names out,” Biden said. “Look, for four years, all that’s been in the news is Trump. The next four years, I want to make sure all the news is the American people. I’m tired of talking about Trump. It’s done.”

Pelosi released a statement after Trump was acquitted, praising Republicans who stood up to him and criticizing those who did not.

“I salute the Republican Senators who voted their conscience and for our Country,” she said.

Pelosi added, “Other Senate Republicans’ refusal to hold Trump accountable for igniting a violent insurrection to cling to power will go down as one of the darkest days and most dishonorable acts in our nation’s history.”

Biden also weighed in on the verdict in a statement of his own just hours after Trump was acquitted, as IJR reported.

“This sad chapter in our history has reminded us that democracy is fragile,” the president said.

He continued, “While the final vote did not lead to a conviction, the substance of the charge is not in dispute. Even those opposed to the conviction, like Senate Minority Leader (Mitch) McConnell, believe Donald Trump was guilty of a ‘disgraceful dereliction of duty’ and ‘practically and morally responsible for provoking’ the violence unleashed on the Capitol.”
