Former Vice President Kamala Harris made a rare appearance at the high-profile Met Gala on Monday night, a move that was ruthlessly mocked by critics.
According to Fox News, the theme of this year’s Met Gala was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” honoring Black dandyism and “the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.” Vogue notes Black dandyism is a “fashion revolution, a movement steeped in history, resistance, and pride.”
The Democratic Party shared an image of Harris in his Met Gala outfit, captioning the photo with, “Kamala Harris stuns at the Met Gala.”
However, onlookers were quick to mock Harris’ outfit and asked why the Democratic Party was using its main account to post the photo.
“Why is the Democratic Party’s main social media account posting this?” journalist Zaid Jilani wrote on X.
See the reactions below:
“I like how her dress switches from black to white, the same as her personality and accent depending on who she’s talking to,” one X user wrote.
“She looks like a Carnegie Deli giant black and white cookie,” another X user wrote.
“It’s a good thing that she has all this spare time to hobnob with Hollywood’s elite,” another said, referring to Harris’ presidential election loss.
“Not even pretending to be in touch with everyday Americans, I see,” one user said.
“Right? They should have learned the lesson from the reaction when AOC went. I’m a Democrat and I don’t even know what they’re doing lately,” another wrote, referencing U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y) controversial appearance at the Met Gala in 2021 where she wore a gown worth thousands of dollars with “Tax the Rich” written across the back.
